Summerville, South Carolina — The Summerville Museum and Research Center honored resident historian Dr. Ed West on Sunday by dedicating its library to his research and contributions to the museum.
Dr. West is a retired pediatrician who lives in Summerville and frequently speaks at the museum as part of its series on local individuals and historical events. He also consults on several of the museum’s displays and artifacts.
The Summerville Museum and Research Center, formerly known as the Summerville Dorchester Museum, was renamed in 2022. The “little museum with big stories” on Doty Avenue gathers, preserves, and shows items, as well as offering events based on Summerville’s culture and natural heritage, including a Palmetto Paleontology exhibit with ancient specimens – and now the Dr. Edward West Research Library.
