A Charleston County man has been arrested in connection with a deadly July hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Hollywood, according to deputies.
Arrest Made in Fatal Cherry Hill Road Hit-and-Run
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that Montez Desmond Ladson, 26, of Hollywood, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. The crash happened on July 12 along Cherry Hill Road and killed 41-year-old Tyler Talley.
What Happened on July 12
Deputies were called after reports of a man lying in the roadway. When first responders arrived, they found Talley, who had been struck by a vehicle. He died at the scene.
Authorities said there were no direct witnesses to the crash, but investigators collected vehicle debris left behind, which helped them determine the make and model of the car involved.
How Investigators Linked the Vehicle
According to an affidavit:
Investigators learned the owner of a vehicle matching the debris had attended a party on Chad Lane, close to where the crash happened.
They located the suspected vehicle and conducted a search.
Testing revealed that the undercarriage had presumptive positive results for human DNA in several locations.
This evidence led to Ladson’s arrest.
Charge and Ongoing Case
Ladson faces one felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a serious offense under South Carolina law. The sheriff’s office has not released additional details about his bond or court appearance.
The arrest brings a step toward justice in a tragic case that left a family grieving and a community shaken. While the investigation continues, authorities say the DNA evidence was crucial in tying the suspect’s vehicle to the deadly hit-and-run.
