A man from Adams Run, South Carolina, is facing felony DUI charges following a head-on crash that severely injured a woman and left her trapped in her car. Jarone Lamar Washington, 37, is charged with felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury after the incident, which occurred early Monday morning.
Details of the Crash
The crash happened around 1:50 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 165 and Caddin Road in Hollywood. According to an affidavit, Washington was driving under the influence of alcohol when he veered left of center on the road, causing a head-on collision with another vehicle. Washington was behind the wheel of a 2022 Honda Accord, while the other car involved was a 2025 Nissan sedan.
The impact of the crash trapped the woman driving the Nissan and caused a serious compound fracture to her right leg, meaning the broken bone also pierced the skin. The woman had to be extricated from the vehicle and was severely injured.
Medical and Legal Details
Following the crash, Washington was reported to have passed out, and emergency responders took him to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Deputies reported that he smelled of alcohol at the scene.
At MUSC, during his medical intake, staff took a blood sample from Washington, which revealed his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.249%, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%. In addition to the blood test, a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) blood kit was also taken as part of the investigation.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Consequences
Washington’s actions have led to serious legal consequences. He is currently facing felony DUI charges, which could result in significant penalties if he is convicted. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement is working to ensure justice for the woman who was injured in the crash.
