Cordesville, South Carolina — The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office reports that a 65-year-old woman died after a house collapsed in Cordesville, trapping two people.
According to officials, county emergency crews were dispatched to Rufus Lane at 7:42 a.m. Thursday after receiving reports that a home had collapsed with people inside. Both victims were removed from the structure.
The coroner’s office was notified at 9:18 p.m. that one of the victims had died in the MUSC burn unit. Sandra Tillman, 65, was identified as a New York resident. Coroner Darnell Hartwell stated that Tillman died as a result of injuries and complications caused by the collapse.
Authorities did not provide any additional information about the second person involved.
According to the coroner, several agencies responded to the incident, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the South Carolina Fire Marshal, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, North Fire & Rescue, Moncks Corner Fire & Rescue, Berkeley County Communications, Berkeley County Roads & Bridges, Goose Creek Heavy Rescue, and Summerville Special Operations.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, SLED, and the South Carolina Fire Marshal are still investigating the cause of the collapse.
