Several Chester City Council members received threatening letters this week.
On Friday, the Chester Police Department was informed that these city officials, including the mayor, had received individually addressed letters threatening physical harm, according to police.
Chester Police requested assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division due to the individuals involved.
Investigators identified the person who sent the letters. SLED’s Behavioral Science Unit confirmed that the individual had a history of mental health issues.
SLED is still conducting an investigation, according to police.
