Charleston, South Carolina — The City of Charleston will kick off the holiday season on Sunday with the annual Light the Lake ceremony and tree lighting at Colonial Lake.

The ceremony, scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m., will include a countdown led by Mayor William Cogswell to illuminate the Colonial Lake Christmas tree, as well as luminaries around the water.

Live entertainment is planned for the evening, including a performance of “Letters to Santa” by Shortwave Kitsch and a Gullah rendition of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Fouché Sheppard.

Families can participate in kid-friendly activities like a scavenger hunt, candy cane hunt, and snowball fight zone. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be available for photographs.

Several local food trucks will be present, including The Biscuit Shed, Lola’s Lumpia Food Truck, D’Allesandro’s Pizza, Pure Fluff Co., and Coastal Cowgirl Coffee.

Mayor Cogswell and Mike Seekings, Councilmember for District 8, are slated to attend. The event is open to both residents and visitors to Colonial Lake on Broad Street.
