Charleston Animal Society offers a prize for information on 18 abandoned pets in Goose Creek

Goose Creek, S.C. — The Charleston Animal Society is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for abandoning 18 small dogs at a busy intersection in Goose Creek.

The Discovery of Abandoned Dogs

On Monday, Aug. 25, Goose Creek officers were alerted to a group of over a dozen small dogs running around the intersection of Red Bank Road and Highway 52. The dogs, which were identified as chihuahua-dachshund mixed breed, were abandoned in a highly trafficked area, creating a danger to both the dogs and the public.

Animal control officers successfully recovered 17 of the dogs over the following days and took them to the Charleston Animal Society’s Berkeley Campus in Moncks Corner for care and rehabilitation.

A Dog Found Dead

Sadly, one dog believed to be connected to the group was found dead in the road near the area where the other dogs were located. Investigators suspect the dog was struck by a vehicle. While the remaining dogs have been rescued, authorities are continuing to search the area to ensure there are no others still in need of help.

Reward and Call for Information

The Charleston Animal Society is offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to an arrest in the case. They urge anyone with information to contact the Goose Creek Police Department at (843) 863-5200 or email tips to [email protected].

Aldwin Roman, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of the Charleston Animal Society, emphasized the seriousness of the crime:

“Abandoning any animal, especially a group of animals like this, is a serious crime that poses extreme dangers to not only the dogs involved, but also the public,” Roman said. “It is our hope that the community will be able to assist law enforcement in finding the individuals responsible and holding them accountable.”

A Growing Concern

Animal abandonment is not only inhumane, but it also places a significant burden on animal shelters and rescue organizations. The Charleston Animal Society continues to encourage the community to report any animal abuse or abandonment they witness and to work together to ensure the safety and welfare of all animals.
