A former North Charleston police officer, Larne Demarcio Green, was arrested last week by the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) after an investigation into an incident involving domestic violence, misconduct in office, kidnapping, and firearm assault.
Details of the Incident
Green, 40, was arrested following a request for an investigation by the Summerville Police Department, which stemmed from an event that occurred on May 19. The charges include first-degree domestic violence, misconduct in office, two counts of kidnapping, and pointing and presenting a firearm at a person.
According to affidavits from the investigation, Green allegedly blocked the movements of two individuals in a parking lot at the Azalea Square Boulevard movie theater in Summerville by parking his patrol vehicle next to their cars. One of the victims, a male, told police that he and a female friend were in her car when Green parked his vehicle, trapping them.
The male victim attempted to leave, but Green allegedly stepped behind his car and took pictures. As the man began to back out, Green allegedly pointed a firearm at him. The man then informed Green that he was being recorded. After this, Green reportedly put the weapon away, and the man was able to leave the area safely.
Physical Assault and Witness Statements
The incident escalated when Green approached the second victim’s car, where he allegedly punched the woman in the jaw. Witnesses corroborated the victim’s account of the assault, further supporting the claims of misconduct.
The male victim, who had a camera recording the events, showed the footage to a Summerville detective, which confirmed the statements made by both victims regarding the altercation.
Charges and Bond
Green was arrested and booked into the Hill Finklea Detention Center, where he was given a $25,000 bond—$5,000 for each charge. He was terminated from his position with the North Charleston Police Department on June 13.
The Role of Law Enforcement
This case has raised concerns about the abuse of power and misconduct by law enforcement officers, especially those in positions of authority. SLED’s involvement in the investigation is a step toward accountability for Green’s actions.
