Amazon cloud outage affects South Carolina schools

Charleston, South Carolina – A recently fixed Amazon Web Services cloud software failure is still having an impact on South Carolina schools.

Although the problem with Amazon’s cloud computing service was repaired Monday evening, South Carolina schools, notably Charleston County School District, are dealing with the fallout.

According to CCSD officials, students have been unable to access onto their district-issued Chromebooks owing to an issue with ClassLink, which oversees student logins across the state.

The South Carolina Department of Education and ClassLink are working to remedy the issue for the schools and will keep parents informed about the situation.

The outage had a tremendous impact on popular platforms, bringing down internet services such as Snapchat, Robinhood, Roblox, online broker Robinhood, and more.

AWS delivers behind-the-scenes cloud computing infrastructure to some of the world’s most well-known enterprises. Its clients include government agencies, institutions, and enterprises, including The Associated Press.
