A South Carolina woman was tragically killed in a three-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Cleburne County, Alabama, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
The Fatal Crash
The accident occurred around 7:23 a.m. on I-20, approximately two miles east of Heflin. Elizabeth Melton, 74, from Summerville, South Carolina, was driving a 2024 Buick Encore when it collided with a 2019 Land Rover Discovery. A 2024 Volvo tractor-trailer then struck the Buick Encore, causing fatal injuries to Melton.
Passenger Injured
A passenger in the Buick was also injured in the crash and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The passenger’s condition has not been disclosed, and authorities have not released further details about the person.
Investigation Underway
Troopers from the ALEA Highway Patrol Division responded to the scene and are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash. At this time, no additional details about the cause of the accident have been provided.
