EASLEY, S.C. — A tragic pedestrian accident claimed the life of a 49-year-old woman on Saturday afternoon, according to officials from the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Pickens County Coroner’s Office.
Incident Details
The crash occurred around 2:15 p.m. on S.C. 8 in Easley. The victim, identified as Adela Aguilar, was walking east along the shoulder of S.C. 8 when she attempted to cross the highway at the intersection with Mauldin Road. At that moment, a 2025 Jeep Compass, traveling east on S.C. 8, struck Aguilar as she crossed the road.
Aguilar was pronounced dead at the scene by Pickens County Coroner Andrew Wilson.
Details About the Vehicle
The driver and passenger of the Jeep were not injured in the incident, and no other injuries were reported. It has not yet been confirmed whether the individuals in the Jeep were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office are continuing their investigation into the crash.

This incident is part of a concerning trend on South Carolina roads. As of March 22, 2026, at least 158 people had died in traffic accidents in the state. This follows a particularly deadly year in 2025, where at least 914 people were killed in collisions.
In Pickens County, two people have died in crashes so far in 2026, while 16 people lost their lives in wrecks in the county last year.
