A 36‑year‑old Rock Hill woman, Katherine Y. Mendoza Amador, was killed Friday morning on I‑77 northbound in York County, South Carolina, after exiting her disabled vehicle and being struck by another car.

What happened

Around 10:30 a.m., the 2014 Jeep Wrangler she was driving, which was towing a utility trailer, became disabled and stopped in the middle of the interstate. Amador exited the Jeep and was hit by a 2018 Jeep Renegade traveling in the same direction; she died at the scene.

Official details

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and has not yet announced any charges, while the York County Coroner’s Office confirmed her identity and said toxicology and autopsy results are pending. The incident occurred near mile marker 82, just north of Rock Hill, close to the Cherry Road and Celanese Road exits, causing significant traffic delays.
