A portion of I-526 is closed as a concrete truck dumps its load on the road.

All westbound lanes of Interstate 526 near mile marker 12 were temporarily closed Thursday after a concrete truck spilled its load on the roadway, according to the Charleston Police Department.

The closure occurred near the Westmoreland Bridge just past Glenn McConnell Parkway, causing traffic backups for drivers traveling through the area.

Traffic Delays Reported

Authorities initially indicated that crews were working to reopen at least one lane as cleanup operations began. Drivers were advised to expect delays and seek alternate routes while the spill was being cleared.

Roadway Reopened

Police confirmed that the roadway fully reopened around 1:58 p.m. after crews removed the spilled concrete and ensured the highway was safe for travel.
