A motorcyclist died after allegedly escaping police in Aiken County.

North Augusta, South Carolina. A motorcyclist who died in a collision while allegedly fleeing police in Aiken County has been identified.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday on U.S. 25 (Edgefield Road) near Hampton Avenue.

According to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables, Roosevelt Walker, 46, lost control of his 2013 Harley Davidson motorbike on Edgefield Road while attempting to flee a North Augusta Department of Public Safety officer.

According to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway, the rider exited the road to the right, hit a curb, drove through a parking lot, hit another curb, and spilled from the motorcycle.

According to Ables, responding officers assisted Walker until emergency services arrived to transport him to Wellstar MCG Health Hospital around 11 p.m. Walker died there.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash, and an autopsy is set sometime next week in Newberry.
