A man is accused of menacing an officer in the Ladson district by brandishing a medieval sword: NCPD

North Charleston Police Department responded around 4:30 p.m. on December 4, 2025, to the Spencer Creek Woods neighborhood in Ladson after multiple reports of a man swinging a three-foot medieval-style sword and a hammer in the roadway. The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Joshua Dorman, was observed actively swinging the sword upon the first officer’s arrival. Dorman stabbed the sword into the ground and surrendered without further resistance.

Arrest and Charges

Dorman faces charges of aggravated breach of peace and threatening the life of a public official. While being transported to the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center, he allegedly threatened to harm an officer. No injuries occurred during the incident.

Background

Jail records indicate Dorman has been booked at Al Cannon Detention Center four times since 2022, with this marking his third charge for threatening the life of a public official in that period. The investigation remains ongoing.
