North Charleston police arrested 36-year-old Alexander Manuel Garcia after a violent domestic incident at a home on Breeders Cup Drive early Tuesday morning.
Incident and threats to officers
Officers arrived just before 3 a.m. and encountered Garcia coming out of the house, refusing commands and claiming he had a gun while telling police to shoot him. Less‑than‑lethal options were used but were reportedly ineffective until Garcia eventually allowed officers to tackle and restrain him.
Reported assault inside the home
The victim and Garcia’s mother had already fled outside by the time officers got there. The victim told police the confrontation began after Garcia said he had killed a cat, then allegedly escalated into him smacking her, kicking in a bathroom door, dragging her, and continuing to assault her while his mother tried to intervene.
Charges
Garcia was taken into custody and charged with:
- Kidnapping
- Domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature
- Resisting arrest
