HORRY COUNTY, S.C. — A Lowcountry man was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday in Horry County for shooting a man in the leg in the Longs area in July 2024, the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office said.
Xavier Christopher Knight, 27, of Charleston County, pleaded guilty to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and was sentenced by Horry County Circuit Judge Michael Nettles. He will be required to serve at least 85% of the sentence before he is eligible for parole.
The shooting happened on July 11, 2024, on Freemont Road in the Longs area, the solicitor’s office said. The victim and other witnesses helped identify Knight as the suspect.
“The acts of the defendant in this case were senseless, and it is a miracle that no one was killed in this incident, Assistant Solicitor Anthony DiChiara said. “The defendant will now serve over a decade in prison and stands as an example of the consequences imposed on those who resort to gun violence.”
