North Charleston, South Carolina. A teenager and a 19-year-old were detained on Saturday after officers uncovered two weapons, including a stolen pistol, during a traffic check, according to the North Charleston officers Department.
Omarion Washington, 19, was charged with possession of stolen items, and the juvenile was charged with possessing a handgun while forbidden.
Officers reported that while patrolling the vicinity of Dorchester Road about 7 p.m., they noticed a car backed into a parking space at Big Daddy Deals, surrounded by many people. Officers conducted a traffic stop after the car allegedly made an unlawful turn and employed various illumination devices.
Officers approached the vehicle and reported smelling marijuana, prompting the occupants to exit.
A probable cause search reportedly turned up an AR-style weapon with an extended magazine holding 31 bullets inside a backpack near the juvenile passenger’s feet. Washington was also found with a firearm in his pocket that had been reported stolen from North Charleston, according to the report.
The child was taken into custody and sent to the Department of child Justice, while Washington was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
