North Charleston Police arrested 61-year-old Charles Wells Jr. after discovering narcotics in his vehicle during a patrol at Kapstone Park on Remount Road. The search followed complaints about drug activity, loitering, and vandalism in the area.
Arrest Circumstances
Officers spotted Wells’ parked car in a remote lot corner around 5 p.m. Friday; he refused a vehicle search, but a K-9 alert provided probable cause. The probe uncovered marijuana, cocaine residue, a crack pipe, a digital scale, plastic bags with cocaine-fentanyl mix (totaling over 21 grams), meth-fentanyl, and a fentanyl capsule, plus $1,000 cash and four phones.
Charges Filed
Wells faces trafficking cocaine and fentanyl, plus multiple possession-with-intent-to-distribute counts for cocaine, meth, marijuana, cocaine base, and fentanyl. Proximity to the public park enhanced several charges; he was booked into Al Cannon Detention Center.
