Corey Arthur White, 46, received a 35-year sentence for murdering Koshun Hightower at Charleston’s Economy Inn in May 2022. Judge Jennifer B. McCoy handed down the penalty following his conviction for murder and weapon possession during a violent crime.
Crime Details
White hosted Hightower, linked to drug activity, in his room before fetching a gun around 11:45 a.m., returning, and shooting him seven times—including four in the back—as captured on surveillance video. Seven 9mm casings were recovered, alongside a loaded .45 pistol in Hightower’s waistband; White confessed post-arrest but claimed unproven self-defense, with no clear motive.
Background
White’s record spans decades of drug-related offenses plus a 2008 third-degree criminal sexual conduct conviction. The Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office confirmed the sentencing details.
