A Hollywood man has been charged after authorities discovered several pitbull-type dogs living in poor conditions at his home in Charleston County, South Carolina. Harry Brown Jr., 47, is facing five counts of ill treatment of animals following an investigation by local deputies.
Details of the Incident
The incident began when deputies were called to Brown’s residence on Royal Harbor Road after receiving reports of animals in need of removal. The caller informed authorities that the dogs’ owner, later identified as Brown, no longer lived at the property and had not been properly caring for the animals.
When deputies arrived, they found five dogs in extremely poor condition. All the dogs appeared emaciated and lacked access to food or water. Several of the dogs had visible injuries and wounds, further indicating neglect.
Action Taken and Legal Consequences
Charleston County authorities took the dogs to the Charleston Animal Society for necessary treatment and care. Brown was arrested and charged with five counts of ill treatment of animals. A judge set his bail at $5,000 for each count, and as of Tuesday afternoon, he remains in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Awareness
Authorities continue to investigate the case, and Brown’s actions have sparked outrage among animal advocates. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need to report animal neglect when it is observed.
