A fight between brothers in Kershaw County ends with shooting

Kershaw County, South Carolina — Kershaw County officials are investigating a fight between brothers that resulted in gunfire on Friday.

The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. and involved two brothers fighting on Bob Hugh Road in the Jefferson area of the county. Authorities said one brother called 911 after allegedly shooting the other.

According to the incident report, arriving deputies discovered the armed brother standing in the front yard and held him at gunpoint. According to the sheriff’s office, he told deputies that his brother attacked him with a wooden board before shooting him with his pistol. The brother who was armed with the gun claimed he had no intention of killing the other and was defending himself.

According to the incident report, the mother of the two brothers refused emergency medical services assistance and insisted on taking the injured brother to the hospital herself. According to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, the brother who was shot was transported by helicopter to a trauma center and is expected to survive. Witnesses claimed he was shot twice, once in the buttocks and once in the thigh.

An incident report suggests that both brothers may face charges, though the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities said they will not release the names of those involved just yet.
