DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. – A 36-year-old bicyclist from Summerville has died after being struck by a vehicle on Dorchester Road late Thursday night, according to officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred around 11 p.m. near Sawmill Court, when a Chevrolet sedan traveling east on Dorchester Road collided with a bicycle that was moving in the same direction.

Victim Identified as Christopher Wilson

The bicyclist, later identified by Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers as Christopher Wilson, was rushed to a nearby hospital following the crash. Sadly, he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the Chevrolet sedan was not injured in the collision, and no other vehicles were involved.

Ongoing Investigation

Trooper Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed that the crash remains under investigation. No details have yet been released about what may have caused the crash or whether any charges could be filed.
