North Charleston police have arrested Demonte Shawn Hipp, 20, after he was allegedly involved in a shooting that left his father wounded two weeks earlier. Hipp faces attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a dwelling, and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
What happened
- The incident occurred on March 23 when the victim (Hipp’s father) approached an officer and reported he had been shot and needed help. He told officers he had gone to a home on Clinton Street to confront his son over allegations that Hipp had assaulted his ex‑wife, who is Hipp’s mother.
- According to the report, the confrontation escalated, Hipp became enraged, and he shot his father. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Arrest and current status
- The U.S. Marshals Service located Hipp on Tuesday and took him into custody; he was then booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
- North Charleston police have not released the father’s current medical condition, but the charges indicate the case is being treated as a serious domestic‑violence‑related shooting.
