NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A 41-year-old man, Gavin Generius Brown, has been arrested and charged with shoplifting after allegedly impersonating a federal agent in North Charleston.
The Incident
According to North Charleston Police, officers responded to a call on Wednesday at around 5 p.m. about a man impersonating an officer at the Stafford Commons Apartments. The complainant reported that Brown entered the front office and demanded to use the office phone, claiming he was a federal agent.
When the complainant explained that it was against company policy to use the phone, Brown became agitated and insisted that she call the police. He also repeatedly stated that he was a federal agent and gave her his name. When she asked to see his identification, Brown refused, and he left the premises. The complainant then called 911.
Shoplifting and Arrest
Shortly after, police located Brown at a Circle K on Ashley Phosphate Road, where he had reportedly shoplifted. When officers identified him, Brown denied impersonating a federal agent but acknowledged that they were looking for him.
Charges and Detention
Brown has been charged with shoplifting. He is currently being held at the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.
This unusual series of events, involving both impersonating a federal agent and shoplifting, has led to the arrest of Gavin Brown. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and Brown’s involvement in other potential crimes will likely be examined during his time in custody.
