Dorchester County, South Carolina – The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office has identified the inmate found unresponsive in his cell at the L.C. Knight Detention Center on Wednesday.
Nathaniel Witherspoon, 71, of Charleston, was found unresponsive at 8 a.m. during a uniform change, according to the coroner. He was pronounced deceased on the scene around 10:15 a.m.
An autopsy is set for 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Medical University of South Carolina.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
