A routine ride-share trip turned dangerous on a rainy Saturday night at the Isle of Palms Marina in South Carolina. Around 9 p.m., a driver accidentally drove straight into Morgan Creek, as captured in a shocking video shared by the Isle of Palms Police Department. Thankfully, two brave locals acted quickly and helped save the day.
Car Goes Off the Edge Into Water
Police reports say the ride-share driver was trying to exit the marina parking lot during heavy rain. Due to the poor visibility caused by the downpour, the driver didn’t realise where the parking lot ended—and the car went straight into the water.
The video shows the entire incident happening in real time, with heavy rain pouring down as the car sinks.
Two Locals Jump In To Rescue Driver
Before the car could go completely underwater, two nearby good Samaritans ran over and pulled the driver out. Their quick action possibly saved the driver’s life.
Emergency services arrived soon after and took the driver to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, the injuries were minor, and the driver is now recovering.
Poor Weather Conditions to Blame
Isle of Palms Police Chief Kevin Cornett stressed the dangers of driving in severe weather, especially at night. He said, “This incident shows how quickly heavy rain and flooding can make it hard to see where the road ends. It becomes difficult to judge the depth of water or even where it begins.”
He warned drivers to stay alert and avoid taking risks during bad weather.
Emergency Teams and Coast Guard Involved
The police and fire department of Isle of Palms responded quickly to the scene. The U.S. Coast Guard was also informed of the accident. After checking the area, they confirmed there was no environmental damage caused by the submerged car.
Simple Tips for Driving in Rainy Weather
This incident reminds all drivers to be cautious when the weather turns bad. Here are some quick tips to stay safe on the road:
Avoid driving in heavy rain unless it’s urgent

What started as a normal drive ended in a close call, but thanks to two quick-thinking citizens, a life was saved.
