Charleston, South Carolina – On Friday afternoon, emergency crews are responding to a partial building collapse in downtown Charleston.
First responders are on the scene at 1001 King Street, which is a possible vacant building close to Rodney Scott’s BBQ. Damage is seen on the building’s external walls.
City officials confirmed that the roof had also sustained damage. The outside patio at Rodney Scott’s and a tiny apartment building to the south have been evacuated as crews conduct an investigation.
King Street, which surrounds the structure, is temporarily closed. So yet, no injuries have been recorded.
King Street between Cleveland and Grove Street is closed, and traffic is being redirected to Rutledge Avenue.
Building inspectors are on the site to investigate and evaluate.
