Three people were arrested after police discovered guns and drugs inside a North Charleston residence

North Charleston, South Carolina— The North Charleston Police Department detained three individuals after finding firearms and drugs inside an apartment complex following reports of a shooting Thursday morning.

James Alton Brown, 50, of Ladson, has been charged with manufacturing or possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, first offense; trafficking methamphetamine for more than 10 grams but less than 28 grams, first offense; and manufacturing, distributing, or possessing cocaine base with the intent to distribute, first offense.

Dwayne Thompson, 57, of Mount Pleasant, is charged with manufacturing or possessing a controlled substance with intent to distribute, first offense, manufacture or distribution of drugs — schedule I (including LSD) and schedule II (including cocaine), first offense, possession of fentanyl, more than two grains, second offense, trafficking in methamphetamine more than 10 grams but less than 28 grams, first offense, manufacture, distribution, or possession with intent to

Javarie Campbell, 21, of North Charleston, has been charged with manufacturing or possessing a controlled substance with intent to distribute, first offense, trafficking in methamphetamine more than 10 grams but less than 28 grams, first offense, manufacturing, distributing, or possessing with intent to distribute cocaine base, first offense, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Officers responded to a reported shooting at the MAA Commerce Apartments on Ladson Road shortly before 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, a citizen hailed down authorities and informed them that his vehicle had been damaged by a bullet. It was later discovered that the damage was caused by a nail in the tire.

More witnesses informed cops they heard four to five gunshots and saw two guys race away from the scene in two vehicles. While inspecting the location, they noticed a man who matched one of the suspect descriptions emerge from a tree line near Ladson Road. According to jail records, the man fled inside an apartment via a stairwell and deadbolted the door.

Police then forced their way into the flat, arresting the three guys inside. They also secured a search warrant and discovered a revolver, a large amount of cocaine, ecstasy, and fentanyl.

All three suspects were booked into Charleston County Jail.
