Thousands gathered at Alston Bailey Elementary School in Summerville, S.C., for the tenth annual Jeans Angels toy giveaway on Sunday, distributing free toys and clothes to families in need.
Event Highlights
The school’s auditorium became a festive distribution center, with volunteers like Gordan Butler and Fantasia Smith assisting attendees. Each child received a teddy bear, one or two small toys, one big toy, and photo opportunities, all at no cost.
Scale and Challenges
Lines wrapped around the school from morning onward, with founder Katrina Carpenter expecting to serve 7,000-8,000 people. The nonprofit relies on year-round shopping, donations, and fundraisers amid rising costs, as noted by volunteer Atera Davis.
Mission Focus
Carpenter stressed putting “God’s love into the atmosphere,” thanking supporters for making the holiday staple possible despite logistical hurdles like parking and endless lines.
