A high-speed chase unfolded Tuesday evening when a suspect in North Charleston fled from police after being caught driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone. The pursuit, which ended in Mount Pleasant, involved multiple agencies and led to a search in the Snowden community.
The Pursuit Begins
Around 7 p.m., an officer from the North Charleston Police Department tried to stop a driver on Helm Avenue for speeding. The suspect, traveling at 60 miles per hour, ignored the officer’s attempt to pull them over and sped away, eventually reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour as they made their way down Rivers Avenue and entered I-526 eastbound.
The pursuit was called off before the vehicle reached Clements Ferry Road, but the situation was far from over.
Vehicle Found in Mount Pleasant
Officers from Mount Pleasant later located the suspect’s vehicle on Maggie Road in the Snowden community. The vehicle had been involved in a minor collision with another car. Despite the discovery of the vehicle, the suspect was nowhere to be found.
Search Efforts and Escape
After finding the vehicle, the Mount Pleasant Police and Charleston County Sheriff’s Office deputies launched a search for the suspect. A Mount Pleasant K9 unit was deployed to assist in tracking the individual, but the suspect managed to escape into the woods.
As of now, the suspect has not been located, and the search has been concluded without an arrest.
