North Charleston, South Carolina – A weekend gunshot outside Northwoods Mall that injured a man may have been the result of a long-standing dispute between two people.
Officers from the North Charleston Police Department arrived to the mall on Saturday afternoon following reports of a shooting near the food court.
Officers arrived at the site and established that everyone inside the mall was safe before searching for anyone who had been harmed in the event.
“Shortly after their arrival, they were advised that a victim had arrived at a local hospital with injuries that were non-life-threatening,” the agency stated in a statement Monday afternoon.
An inquiry into the shooting revealed that it occurred in the parking lot outside the food court, not within the mall. Police have also identified the victim and one possible suspect.
According to the NCPD’s Monday update, early evidence suggests that the two people were involved in an argument around two years ago while in high school.
“Both individuals are no longer students. Detectives are investigating the circumstances of their unexpected encounter at the mall, but it appears to be coincidental,” the agency stated.
The North Charleston Police Department is working with the mall’s management and security staff to “ensure a safe environment for all shoppers and employees.”
Anyone with knowledge about this occurrence is invited to contact the police.
