CHARLESTON, S.C. – Forecasters are keeping an eye on a low-pressure area that has formed off a tropical wave in the Atlantic. Currently, the system has a very low chance of developing into a stronger storm.

The system developed in the Central Tropical Atlantic, about 900 miles east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles. Recently, shower and thunderstorm activity near the center of the system has become more concentrated, which means there is a slight chance of further development in the coming days.

As the system moves west-northwestward at speeds between 10 to 15 mph, it may continue to gain some strength. However, by the middle of the week, environmental conditions are expected to hinder its further development.

At the moment, the likelihood that this system will develop into at least a tropical depression over the next week is only 20%. Forecasters will continue to monitor its progress and provide updates as necessary.
