The coroner has identified the Charleston man who died in a wrong-way crash on the Don Holt Bridge on Saturday

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified the young man who tragically lost his life in a wrong-way crash on the Don Holt Bridge in North Charleston, South Carolina.

21-year-old Luke Madden, a resident of Charleston, died in the early hours of September 6, just after 3 a.m., according to the coroner’s official report.

Wrong-Way Driver Reported Moments Before Crash

According to the North Charleston Police Department, officers first received a call reporting a vehicle driving in the wrong direction on I-526. Shortly afterward, a second call came in to report a crash with injuries on the same stretch of road.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found that Luke Madden had died in the collision. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.

Investigation Underway

The North Charleston Police Department Traffic Unit is currently investigating the cause of the crash. As of now, authorities have not released further details about the vehicle that was travelling the wrong way or whether alcohol or speed played a role in the incident.
