Berkeley County, South Carolina — A diver’s body was discovered on Monday in the Cooper River after going missing over the weekend, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

“Today, just before 11:30 a.m., Berkeley County Communications received a call from a boater in reference to locating the body of the missing diver,” according to the sheriff’s office.

He was recognized by the county coroner’s office as Mark Beckler, 55, of Arlington, Virginia. He had been missing since Saturday, when deputies got a report of a diver in trouble near the Bushy Park Boat Landing.

Multiple agencies spent much of the weekend searching the Cooper River for the diver, but officials did not disclose much specifics about the search and rescue effort.

According to authorities, Beckler and three other divers traveled to South Carolina to dive in the Cooper River.
