The 628th Air Base Wing and 437th Airlift Wing begin the Palmetto Reach exercise at Joint Base Charleston.

The 437th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston launched an annual combat readiness exercise called Palmetto Reach on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, deploying eight C-17 Globemaster III aircraft for a 40-hour mission to the Indo-Pacific region.​

Exercise Scope

Over 9,000 miles, airmen and mission support teams will test operations, endurance, and efficiency in austere environments, collaborating with the 628th Air Base Wing, Air Force units, and international bases.​

Objectives and Impact

Palmetto Reach stresses installation processes, power projection, and personnel readiness, certifying the 14th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron for potential deployment while enhancing skills in tanker operations, cargo handling, and unfamiliar terrains. The wing is set to return on January 21 and 28.​
