NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A police pursuit in North Charleston on Thursday afternoon ended in a collision and the arrest of a fleeing suspect, authorities said.
Pursuit Began After Earlier Incident
According to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, a CCSO K9 unit spotted a vehicle that had fled from an earlier incident the previous day. Around 2 p.m., a deputy tried to pull the driver over in the 3800 block of Ladson Road, but the suspect refused to stop.
Nine-Minute Chase Reached 100 MPH
Deputies say the chase lasted about nine minutes and reached speeds of up to 100 mph. The pursuit traveled toward the area of Highway 78 before ending on Blue House Road, where the suspect’s vehicle collided with a civilian car.
No Injuries Reported to Civilians
Officials confirmed that no one in the civilian vehicle was injured in the crash. After the collision, the suspect ran into nearby woods but was quickly caught and taken into custody.
Roadway Reopened
The eastbound lanes of I-26 near US-78 were briefly closed during the incident but have since been reopened to traffic. The suspect’s name and charges have not yet been released.
