It has been six years since 16-year-old Jaquez Cromwell was found dead on James Island, and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says the search for suspects is still ongoing. Cromwell’s death remains a mystery, and detectives are continuing to pursue leads in the case.
The Incident
On September 6, 2019, Cromwell went with a parent to his grandparents’ home on Jeffery Road to prepare for an approaching hurricane. At some point, Cromwell walked away and was allegedly confronted by someone on a dirt path between Jeffery and Honey Hill roads, where he was shot.
After the severe weather passed, Cromwell’s body was found several days later. Investigators have not identified any suspects in the case.
