Six South Carolina corporations will lay off nearly 600 employees and close two plants, according to a new report. Here's where.

Milliken’s planned closure of its Cedar Hill Plant in Jonesville, SC, will lay off 126 workers starting April 3 through Aug. 31. The plant produces broadwoven cotton and wool fabrics in a small town of ~900 residents, near Croft State Park.

James Hardie Building Products is also shutting its Summerville facility, affecting 78 employees. Saddle Creek Logistics in Duncan cuts 130 jobs, while eREV Supply Chain and DLH Solutions in Charleston combined eliminate 327 positions. Smaller impacts include JeniusBank’s statewide layoff of 3.

South Carolina’s January WARN report totals 664 permanent layoffs across these firms.

Key WARN Act Details

The federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, enacted in 1988, requires companies with 100+ employees to give 60 days’ notice for mass layoffs or plant closures. This triggers South Carolina’s Rapid Response team, which offers on-site help for job searches, retraining, and unemployment benefits via the Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW).

For affected workers:

  • File for unemployment at dew.sc.gov.
  • Access Rapid Response services for rZesume help, job fairs, and skills training.
  • Check SC Works centers for local support in Spartanburg, Dorchester, or Charleston counties.

These closures reflect broader manufacturing and logistics pressures in the Upstate and Lowcountry regions.
