Police say a man was detained for copper wire theft at a restaurant in North Charleston.

North Charleston Police arrested 54-year-old Benjamin Shaffer, a Daniel Island resident, on Tuesday for allegedly stealing copper electrical wire from a Ruby Tuesday restaurant.

Incident Details

On January 31, officers on foot patrol were alerted by a hotel employee about suspicious activity near the restaurant. They found three power panels with doors open and copper wiring removed. Surveillance footage showed suspects taking the wire to a hotel room, where four people were questioned and trespassed.

Arrest and Charges

Investigation pinpointed Shaffer as a suspect, who surrendered on Tuesday. He faces charges of damage to property while stealing metals and was booked into Al Cannon Detention Center. Police indicated more arrests may follow.
