Passenger ejected during the Johns Island crash was discovered days later

Authorities in Charleston County, South Carolina, have confirmed that a passenger ejected during a crash on Johns Island was discovered days later after a local resident came across the body on their property.

Crash Details

The incident occurred on Friday, August 22, around 7 p.m. on Fickling Hill Road, when deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to reports of a vehicle accident.

At the scene, the driver first told deputies that there was a passenger in the vehicle. But when deputies began searching the area and pressed for clarification, the driver later claimed they had been the sole occupant. The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Body Discovered Days Later

On Monday, August 25, CCSO’s traffic unit and forensic services unit returned to the crash site after a resident walking their property found a body.

Deputies confirmed it was the passenger from the Aug. 22 crash. Investigators determined that the passenger had been ejected from the vehicle during the collision.

The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

Investigation Ongoing

The Sheriff’s Office has not shared why the driver initially gave conflicting accounts of the passenger’s presence. Authorities are continuing to investigate both the circumstances of the crash and the passenger’s death.

Officials are urging anyone with information related to the crash to contact the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office at 843-202-1700.

What began as a standard crash investigation on Johns Island has turned into a more complex case after a passenger’s body was discovered days later. With unanswered questions surrounding the driver’s statements and the late discovery of the victim, investigators are working to determine exactly what happened that Friday night.
