Police in North Charleston, South Carolina, say one person was injured and two suspects were taken into custody following a Monday afternoon shooting near Rivers Avenue.
Shooting and Response
According to the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD), officers were dispatched to the area of Rivers Avenue and Beaufort Avenue after reports of a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
When officers arrived, they found the victim unresponsive, with injuries to his chest and lower back. Officers immediately began life-saving measures until EMS transported him to a local hospital. His current condition has not been released.
Suspects Quickly Caught
As more units responded, citizens in the area directed officers toward the suspects’ escape route, police said.
Thanks to this community assistance, officers were able to set up a perimeter and apprehend two suspects shortly after the shooting. Both were taken to the detective bureau for questioning.
Police Statement
In an update posted to their Crimewatch page, NCPD thanked the community:
“Based on the cooperation of these OUTSTANDING citizens, officers quickly established a perimeter and successfully apprehended two suspects.”
While the victim remains hospitalized, police say the quick cooperation between citizens and officers led to the swift capture of two suspects. Authorities have not yet released their names or potential charges as the investigation continues.
