A tragic road accident in downtown Charleston has left one person dead, creating concern about pedestrian safety in busy city areas. The incident took place during the morning rush hour, when traffic is usually high and roads are crowded.
Accident Happened at Busy Intersection
The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the junction of King Street and Broad Street in Charleston. According to police, the pedestrian was crossing the road using a marked crosswalk, which is meant to be a safe place for people to walk across.
At the same time, a pickup truck was taking a left turn from King Street. During this turn, the vehicle hit the pedestrian.
Victim Taken to Hospital but Could Not Survive
After the crash, emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. The injured pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sadly, despite medical efforts, the person died due to serious injuries.
Police have not yet shared the name of the victim.
Driver Stayed at the Scene
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the pickup truck did not run away and stayed at the location after the accident. This is important, as leaving the scene can lead to serious legal trouble.
Road Closed for Investigation
The intersection was closed for nearly three hours while police officers carried out their investigation. This caused some traffic delays in the area.
As of now, no charges have been filed against the driver. Police are still investigating what exactly caused the accident.
