Police in North Charleston, South Carolina, say a second person has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed 25-year-old Jermaine Brown of Orangeburg on June 19.

New Arrest in the Case

The North Charleston Police Department confirmed that Jarvis De Shaun Danzy, 25, was arrested Tuesday. Investigators allege that after the crash, Danzy helped the driver clean up the vehicle involved and drove him back to the scene without contacting authorities.

Danzy is charged with accessory after the fact to a felony and is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Driver Previously Charged

Police had already charged Chemar Ny’Zell Washington, 24, of Jamestown, on July 16. Washington faces counts of leaving the scene of a collision with death and reckless homicide.

Investigators say Washington was speeding on Otranto Road near Emmie Street when he struck Brown, who died at the scene.

The Victim

The victim, Jermaine Brown, was just 25 years old and from Orangeburg. Authorities said he died before emergency crews could render aid.

With two suspects now in custody, investigators continue to piece together the events surrounding the June 19 hit-and-run in North Charleston. While Washington faces the primary charges for causing the crash, police say Danzy’s actions in helping conceal the crime have also brought serious consequences.
