North Charleston mother arrested after a youngster was discovered alone in an apartment parking lot.

A 20-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday after police in North Charleston said she left her two young children home alone at an apartment complex.

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded around 1:30 p.m. to the Silvana Oaks Apartments after receiving a report that a 2-year-old child was running unattended in the parking lot.

Children Found Alone Inside Apartment

According to police, a concerned resident saw the toddler outside alone and went to the child’s apartment, where they found the door open. After contacting authorities, officers entered the unit and discovered a 1-year-old child asleep on her stomach in a bedroom.

Police identified the children’s mother as Superia Wilson, 20. Officers attempted to reach her by phone but were unsuccessful. Wilson later returned to the apartment and reportedly told officers she had left to donate blood.

Charges Filed, Children Released to Father

Wilson was arrested and charged with unlawful conduct toward a child. She was transported to the Dorchester County Detention Center.

Authorities said the two children were released into the custody of their father. The case remains under investigation.
