A shocking case out of North Charleston, South Carolina, has raised concerns about childcare safety after a daycare employee was arrested for allegedly abusing an infant at a Christian preschool.
Daycare Worker Arrested
Police say Gladys Rampersant, 75, was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with unlawful conduct toward a child. The charges stem from a disturbing incident reported in July 2025 at Sweetgrass Christian Academy, located on Remount Road.
According to investigators, Rampersant allegedly grabbed a baby less than a year old by the arms, shook the infant hard, and then slammed them into a crib. Reports further state she returned to the crib, pulled the baby out, and struck the child on the head several times.
Bond and Release
After her arrest, Rampersant was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center. Jail records show she was released roughly five hours later on a $15,000 bond.
Police have described the case as “disturbing” and confirmed that their investigation is ongoing.
Daycare Closure
Sweetgrass Christian Academy had only recently opened on July 26, 2025, but following the allegations, the facility now appears to be permanently closed.
