Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The area of Mount Pleasant unanimously approved a compensation hike for first responders in the area.
This comes after a wage survey indicated that their pay was not competitive with neighboring communities.
Many community members attended the town council meeting to discuss first responder compensation.
Some people supported the 4% pay rise, while others urged the council to let the increase go via the committee for budget approval.
The salary study performed in September proposed a 6% raise for first responders.
Last month, Mount Pleasant council voted 5-4 to boost the mileage cost. This means Mount Pleasant residents will see an increase in property taxes to cover the first responder wage accommodation.
Mount Pleasant will be able to enhance the salaries of first responders by 4% because to the property tax hike.
Tonight, council unanimously approved the 4% hike. Phases 1 and 2 of the pay study had already passed through the council. These phases included more manpower and educational incentives.
Mount Pleasant council members stated at the meeting that they would also consider housing incentives for first responders so that they could afford to reside in town.
