Man arrested after shooting and barricading himself in a North Charleston home

North Charleston, South Carolina. A guy was detained early Friday morning after reportedly firing rounds in a forested area before barricading himself inside his home, according to the North Charleston Police Department.

Robert Hamby, age 40, was detained and charged with breach of peace and discharging a handgun within city limits.

According to the officers’ report, they responded to the 5000 block of Thornton Drive around 9:45 p.m. after receiving multiple complaints about gunfire behind homeowners’ homes.

When police arrived, they saw Hamby emerge from the woods before fleeing through the back door of his home. Officers issued several demands for Hamby to leave the house, but he refused.

NCPD SWAT, negotiators, and detectives were called to the area, and after a standoff, Hamby exited and was apprehended without incident.

Hamby was brought to the Dorchester County Detention Center.
