The Patriots Point redevelopment proposes replacing a parking lot near the U.S.S. Yorktown with Seafair Village, a mixed-use area featuring shops, restaurants, businesses, and public gathering spaces, followed by a Grand Lawn and the Grand Patriot Hotel. Developed by Bennett Hospitality, the project emphasizes public access, including waterfront paths, fountains, and green spaces to create a vibrant work-live-play destination. An economic analysis projects $1 billion in construction, generating over 7,400 temporary jobs and long-term benefits like $400 million in revenue and 3,000 permanent jobs.
Meeting and Public Input
The Mount Pleasant Design Review Board will consider final approval on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Town Hall, with public comment encouraged. Councilmember Mike Tinkey supports the project but urges prioritizing green space preservation and public access before building construction to ensure it remains inviting for families without requiring spending. Rebecca Imholz, Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce executive director, highlights expected job creation and local economic retention from residents living, shopping, and working on-site.
Development Status
The multi-year project aligns with Mount Pleasant’s Comprehensive Plan for waterfront recreation and economic growth, including planned districts for hospitality and entertainment. Bennett Hospitality’s Ian Duncan stresses high-quality public realms as a core goal. If approved, developers can proceed to construction planning, building on prior state approvals and community discussions.
