ISLE OF PALMS, South Carolina – The Isle of Palms Police Department has praised a group of Wando High School football players for demonstrating excellent cooperation and leadership by stopping to assist a teammate with a tire blowout.

Sgt. Barattini and MPO Griffin observed many vehicles pulled over on the Isle of Palms Connector with hazard lights flashing Monday night.

“At first, we weren’t sure what was going on, but what happened was a moment that reminded us what true teamwork, leadership, and character are all about,” the agency wrote on social media.

According to the department, the players were on their way to a team meal when the event occurred, and instead of abandoning their teammates, they all stayed to help change the tire.

“No hesitation or irritation, just pure teamwork. “They were changing that tire the old-fashioned way, with a jack and a lot of heart,” police wrote in their post.

The two officers came to a halt to give additional lighting and assure everyone’s safety on the side of the road. However, the agency emphasized that the colleagues did not want any assistance: “They wanted to finish what they started together,” the agency stated.

“These were by far some of the most polite, respectful, and well-mannered young guys we’d ever encountered. “Hats off to their coach and families for raising such incredible teammates and leaders,” the department wrote, adding: “You have already proven what it means to be a true team.”
